Ross Hutchins in cancer fight | The Sun |Sport|Tennis

ROSS HUTCHINS starts cancer treatment today ? and hopes his battle keeps inspiring pal Andy Murray all the way to a Wimbledon title.

Murray dedicated an emotional Brisbane International victory to his best mate.

And the world No 3 is aiming to take his form into next week?s Aussie Open.

Hutchins, 27, will be watching the Melbourne action on TV as he undergoes chemotherapy at the Royal Marsden hospital.

He has been inundated with messages of support from the tennis circuit and beyond ? and has been told his initial treatment will take six months.

That will take him close to the final stages of Wimbledon and his dream is to be in remission while watching Murray on Centre Court at SW19.

Hutchins said: ?That would mean the world to me, just as it would to the people closest to him.

?I was in tears when he won the US Open, and the Olympics before it, as we all were because we had been waiting so long for that to happen.

?If the Wimbledon final coincided with my last chemo session, which I would think is around that time, that would mean a huge amount to me.?

Murray, 25, has been mates with Wimbledon-born Hutchins ? a doubles specialist ranked world No 28 ? since they played junior tennis together 15 years ago.

The world No 3 has been in regular contact since Hutchins told him he was diagnosed with Hodgkin?s lymphoma.

But his on-court speech in Brisbane still came as a shock to Hutchins.

He added: ?As I was watching, I thought ?He is getting good at these presentation speeches because he?s winning so many tournaments? and suddenly that came out and it brought a tear to my eye.

?I was very moved when he said it.?

Roasted carrots and a spinach, roasted carrot, and fennel salad

It's the time of the year to start thinking less about?casseroles and cookies, and more?about vegetables and salads. Roast up some seasoned carrots for a side dish and use the leftovers in a crunchy salad for lunch the next day.

By France Morissette and Joshua Sprague,?Beyond the Peel / January 7, 2013

You get three recipes for the price of one in this blog post. Roasted carrots are great as a side, but also work on a salad topped with homemade citrus dressing.

Salads are a great way of getting more veggies in, but they don?t have to be of the iceberg lettuce variety. They can be exciting, bold and hold up to dressings overnight in the fridge and get packed up easily for lunch the next day.

Today I wanted to share this flavorful side dish that turns into a delicious salad the next day. I love leftovers that don?t look like the way they did the day before. It makes me feel like I get to eat something special and new.

The kitchen notes offers some suggestions on how to make this same dish several ways using different herbs, so you can make it every week without it tasting like the ?same old? carrots again.

This recipe serves 2 for dinner, but double accordingly if you have more mouths to feed or you?d like to have the lunch salad tomorrow.

Roasted Carrots

4 carrots

1 medium shallot, sliced approximately a 1/4 cup

1/2 teaspoon fennel seed, crushed

1 tablespoon each olive oil and fresh orange juice

salt and pepper

green onions sliced on the bias or chopped fresh cilantro, for garnish (optional)

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Toss all the ingredients in a large bowl and toss until well coated. Place the carrots into a baking dish and bake uncovered for 30 minutes or until tender. If you like, you can broil them for the last 5 minutes of the cooking time to develop the caramelized flavor of the carrots and onions.

Tip: If you are making the salad with leftovers tomorrow, now is a great time to toast 1/2 cup of walnuts or nuts of choice.

Kitchen Notes:

If you?re in a hurry, there?s no reason why these carrots couldn?t be baked at 425 degrees F for less time. The look of this dish can easily be varied by simply changing the way the carrots are sliced.

Substitute fresh dill or tarragon for the fennel seeds or try it with tossing the carrots with a tablespoon of honey (substitute maple syrup or agave for vegans) and 1/4 cup of toasted almonds.

If you?d like a more exotic taste, add a 1/2 teaspoon crushed cumin seeds to the fennel seeds and sprinkle the carrots with 1/2 teaspoon dried chilies and? 1/4 cup of raisins before baking. Top with fresh cut cilantro before serving and a side of raita. Add quinoa or millet for a flavorful vegetarian meal (skip the raita for a vegan meal).

Spinach and Roasted Carrot and Fennel Salad
Per person

2 cups of spinach

1 cup of roasted carrots with fennel (recipe above)

toasted walnuts

1 tablespoon goat cheese (optional)

citrus dressing (below)

salt and pepper to taste

Top the spinach with the carrots. Add the walnuts, goat cheese and dressing. If you'd like to make this ahead of time to bring for lunch tomorrow, add the dressing right before serving to assure the spinach doesn?t wilt. If you like you can even serve this with orange segments.

Citrus Dressing

1 tablespoon fresh orange juice

1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice

1 tablespoon olive oil

salt and pepper to taste

Whisk the ingredients together and season with salt and pepper.

The iTwin Connect Plugs Into Your Laptop To Create A Personal VPN That Nobody Can Crack

itwin connectIf you're smart, you probably think twice before using a WiFi network anywhere outside of your own home to log into things like your bank account and even your email. Being on a shared network notoriously leaves you more vulnerable to having someone else monitor all the details of your web browsing activity and access your personal data. But if you're a remote worker, as more and more people are, lots of your time online is spent using relatively untrusted networks in places like cafes, airports, and hotels. A new product from iTwin called the Connect is aimed at taking away those worries. The iTwin Connect,

Rode iXY Microphone ears on

Rode iXY Microphone hands and ears on

Earlier today, Rode announced its newest addition to its already plentiful lineup of microphones. This time, it's one specialized for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. The microphone uses Apple's outgoing 30 pin adapter (Sorry early adopters), so the user can also use headphones simultaneously while recording at rates of up to 24-bit/96kH. The pair of immovable half inch cardioid condensers are positioned in a 90-degree alignment for proper stereo recording without picking up too much ambient noise. They should also dodge any bi-positional recording issues when recording both guitar and vocals at once.

Amongst the angst of CES, the sound quality seemed good, but what really makes the iXY a legitimate contender is Rode's app. There's two versions: a free lite one and a $5.99 pro version, the latter being extremely adjustable in every aspect of audio recording -- gain, input, boost levels, high/low-pass filter options, equalization effects and many more.

The iXY Microphone is available now for $199, and comes with a foam windshield and carrying case. Rode has mentioned that an iPhone case with a standard hotshoe attachment with pistol grip is in the works, and will arrive in the next few months.

Check out the video past the break, where we compare recordings from the Rode iXY attached to an iPhone and a Rode Videomic Pro on a DSLR.

Unfair Assumptions

Overweight people are more likely to be hired last. A recent report explained that if an employer had a choice between two equally qualified candidates, the one with a healthier BMI would be chosen first.? Several unfair assumptions are typically made during first impressions that will impact any person whether they intend for it to or not. Some of the unfair assumptions commonly connect over weight individuals with being lazy, slow, unproductive, unhealthy, self-indulgent, having little or no will power, or even having less intelligent than other people.
