Monte Nowden, a former high school basketball coach, pleaded guilty to raping a 16-year-old student Monday morning.
Nowden will get one and a half years behind bars with 10 years probation for pleading guilty to the third degree rape charge.
The former Gates-Chili basketball coach admitted Monday he raped a student at Tinseltown movie theater back in January.
The plea deal also includes charges Nowden was facing for violating an order of protection. In May, police stopped Nowden for making an unlawful stop. Police said he was with the teenage girl.
Assistant District Attorney Amanda Balling says she is pleased with the outcome and mentioned how long the process was because at one time, Nowden and the teen were saying they were in love with each other. ?It's commonly referred to as statutory rape and I think this is exactly the type of case that our law is design to protect our children and our community for this type of situation. This is obviously a young child that was manipulated and we hate to see that.?
One thing that made this a longer process was originally, the victim's statements to a friend lead to the charges against Nowden but she latter retracted them. The District Attorney's office said from the start, recants are often unreliable.
Nowden will be sentenced on August 15.
